UCS Morning update

I am trying to clear the fog from my brain. The brain juices are not flowing today, yet. Another day of earnings announcements; Sotomayer's nomination vote; health care wrangling before the August break and so forth. WSJ Before-the-bell reports a lower opening this morning. As of 10:14 AM this morning the Dow Jones was down about -54 points. I will be focusing on technology sector ETFs today. I found an interesting article on technology ETFs by Deron Wagner, who is looking for technology ETFs to make a pull back. I thought his technical analysis was sound and may be worth a read.

ETF update

I have been tracking exchange-traded fund indexes of oil and gas, banking, health and pharma, real estate and commodities but none of these indexes are budging from their lows. Maybe, I am looking at this in the wrong way. A few points here, a few points there- nothing major; The only investors that are possibly making money are the short sellers. If you are good at short selling then this is the market for you. Lets take a look at a good short fund.

ETFs -More training and education

By Rick Walter ETF Training & presentation, education and more... There is so much out there. I went to the iShares website and found a series of educational tools, webinars, web casts , tutorials and presentations that may help a beginner and even experienced investors. I was impressed with the tutorials, but I still think that the financial buzzwords in the presentations may be a bit too complex for beginners. However, the site overall presentation and content is very good! What about taxes? By trade I am a tax professional; I believe that all investments should be analyzed first from a tax position, before an investment decision is made. ETFs are labeled as very tax efficient vehicles. Here is a good article, in my opinion, that explains the tax efficiency issue very well for ETFs. Check our external link section for links to websites that I believe provide top notch information on ETFs, including sponsors, distributors and advisers. I will be adding to the list daily. If th...

UCS end-of-week trading update

UCS end-of-week trading update : A-h-h, the joys of being patient. Trading activity was listless, most of the day. Around 2:00 pm, I thought traders had packed it in already and had decided to call it a week. Then all of a sudden BAM! UAW Members Approve GM Pact , the DOW turned positive, activity picked up, and the scramble was on to adjust positions before the end of the day. The ProShares Technology Fund picked up steam like a ferry headed to the Bahamas for the weekend, closing north of $29.00 with the last trade at $29.55. The fund's share volume increased from 179,00 shares to 312,400 shares, which is not the above average volume I was looking for but good enough to make this a positive week after days of listless trading activity. Next week, I am hoping that the fund can crack the $30 range barrier- we will see. Otherwise, have a great weekend folks. 05/29/09 05:26:38 PM If you are interested in trading this fund, would like a prospectus or have a question concerning this f...
